Electricity RetailersIf you wish to purchase electricity from one of the licensed retailers, you will be required to sign a contract. Most retailers offer a fixed price and term contract. Read the contract carefully, so you're aware of all the terms and conditions.
If you decide to sign a contract, you have a cooling off period. To cancel, you must notify the retailer, in writing, within 10 business days. Visit the website of the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) for more information on the Code of Conduct for electricity retailers. What to Ask a Retailer:
All retailers must follow the Electricity Retailers Code of Conduct that establishes guidelines and standards. Retailers' salespeople are required to carry photo identification when retailing door-to-door, to indicate that any local offer is not being made by Hydro One Brampton, to clearly state the price and other terms, and to provide a clearly printed contract. Consumers who wish to make a complaint about an electricity retailer should note the salesperson's name, company, and the time/date of visit and should contact the Ontario Energy Board at
For customers using more than 250,000 kWh of electricity per year
Since the beginning of the year, a new adjustment to wholesale prices called a "Provincial Benefit" has appeared on utility bills.
